Augusta, Georgia and home to Arkansas!

We only spent a day in Augusta, Georgia and once again, it wasn’t enough time. Our main purpose in visiting Augusta was to spend more time with family.

Touring Augusta with our sweet and beautiful grand-neice

My husband’s sister and brother-in-law live in Augusta part-time while he teaches Air Force JROTC at a local high school. In addition, one of their daughters lives there with her husband and two precious kiddos. Ironically, they (sis and bro-in-law) live in a travel trailer when they are staying in Augusta. As an English teacher, I do know that probably isn’t the best use of the word “ironically.” We had a fun time visiting their Keystone Passport.

Augusta is probably most famous for being the host of The Masters golf tournament at Augusta National. We tried to visit Augusta National but didn’t get too far. The gates are pretty, though!

According to Visit Augusta, there are many things to do there. If you want to hike and fish, you can visit Steven’s Creek Heritage Preserve. If that isn’t your thing, there are so many restaurants, stores, galleries, and museums it would take a long time to see them all. We drove to the Boyhood Home of Woodrow Wilson, but it was closed. Tours are available Wednesday through Friday from 10:00 to 4:00, but you must make an appointment in advance. Our grand-niece was so disappointed to not get to go in, but we went on a Saturday. We really should work on planning more!

On our trip I learned that Augusta is the hometown of James Brown! I had no idea! James Brown Family Historical Tours are available on Saturdays from 11:00 to 12:45. They start at the Augusta Museum of History.

Even though it was hot, we enjoyed a leisurely walk on Augusta’s Riverwalk. It was quite shady and beautiful. I definitely recommend checking it out. The walk includes an amphitheater with live concerts, museums, and brick walking trails on multiple levels.

According to Visit Augusta, there a hundreds of delicious restaurants to choose from. We ate lunch in downtown Augusta at Nacho Mama’s. They had a huge variety of nachos, burritos, tacos, and more with vegetarian options and many different kinds of meats. The atmosphere was amazing, and the food was delicious!!!

The best part of our Augusta visit was eating dinner at our niece’s lovely home and meeting her adorable little boy for the first time. Her husband cooked the most amazing dinner on his Big Green Egg. We were so busy enjoying the company and delicious food that we didn’t take any pictures.

The next day we started our journey back to Arkansas. We spent the night near Nashville and “spodded” another RPodder. Is that even a word? As always, it was fun meeting someone new and learning about their travel journey.

This is not our RPod. It just looks exactly like it!

And so, our almost three week journey came to an end. We had so much fun and learned a lot of things. We also can’t wait to do it all again!
